The Museum stands in a varied 2-hectare site which was the 19th Century
garden of the well-known painter, Sir George Reid. After long neglect,
it was reclaimed for the Regiment as a memorial and as a place of
beauty and tranquility for Museum visitors and for those who use the
tea room socially. It consists of walled gardens which include terraced
herbaceous beds, a Garden of Contemplation and a Secret Garden. Monuments
connected with the Regiment are incorporated and plants and areas
are dedicated to individual soldiers.
The Garden contains a range of unusual plants of interest to the plants
person. The Garden was created and is maintained by Volunteers under
the supervision of their Co-ordinating Gardener, Dr. Tom Smith.
