Family breaks don't need to be expensive to be fun! All through Scotland, and especially Aberdeenshire there are pleanty of family activities that are low on cost, high on fun. Sunsets, beaches, lighthouses, museums, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, fishing, stargazing and more--much much more--await your family's pleasure.

Beaching It!
Bring your own bucket and shovel and head for the beach of your choice! Yes, believe it or not Aberdeenshire has a variety of beaches--all unsupervised--to visit and explore, or to just soak up some sun (sometimes it rains though! ) and catch up on some reading. From young children to teenagers to grandparents, there's a beach here to suit everyone! No matter which beach you choose, the sunsets are glorious from all of them!

Did You Know?
Sunsets and sandy beaches are only two of the many attractions that make Aberdeenshire an unrivalled tourist destination. With this many activities and attractions, there is no doubt return visits year after year are an absolute must! In fact, return visits any time, any season, are an excellent idea.

NOT JUST A SUMMER DESTINATION...
Contrary to popular belief, things don’t shut down in Aberdeenshire, they just slow down to a still more relaxing pace. Sunsets can be even more spectacular in the off-season and the Northern Lights have been known to put in an appearance over the winter months. Take an art class, enjoy an evening out in Aberdeen, stroll along the shoreline, kayak, canoe, hike, cycle, cross country ski or simply enjoy the moodiness of Strathbogie...all year long, visitors are invited to share the peace and tranquility of our communities.

Picnic Paradise
Enjoy eating outdoors and take in the scenery, too, by packing up a picnic and eating at one of the many parks in the area. Choose a lochside table with a view to die for

Recreation at Aberdeen Woods

FAMILY BESIDE A SCULPTURE IN KIRKHILL FORESTThe six woodlands which collectively make up the Aberdeen Woods encircle the City of Aberdeen and provide opportunities for excercise and recreation away from the stress of the city streets. Each wood has its own individual character, and is keenly supported by its own "locals"! We are happy that people walk their dogs in the Aberdeen Woods, but dogs must be kept under control all the time. For the sake of the wildlife in the woods and the other people who use them, please keep your dog under control and do not allow it to foul the paths.
