Green Castle Promontory Fort, Portknockie

Surface features are limited to a low eroding bank running round the more accessible SW portion of the site.

The usable area of the summit amounts to approximately 70 m by 15 m. Excavation has indicated occupation during the Iron Age, which involved a stockade defence. In the Early Historic Period, the Picts re-fortified the site with an elaborate timber-laced wall, and built a hall-house within.
