The Wickerman
Monday 31st October 2005
Oyne, Aberdeenshire is only 11.7 miles from Denhead Steading
Samhain Festivals are held throughout Scotland between the 26th and 31st October. Samhain (which later became Hallowe'en), celebrated on the 31st October, is an ancient Celtic festival which celebrates the beginning of winter, marked by death, and the beginning of the Celtic New Year. Two well-known Scottish Samhain Festivals are the burning of the Wickerman at Archeolink in Oyne, Aberdeenshire and the annual Celtic Samhain celebrations at the Scottish Crannog Centre in Kenmore, Perthshire.

Celebrate the beginning of winter and join with the Celts as they prepare for highlight of the day's events - the burning of Wickerman! Make masks to scare away the ghosts, enjoy combat and costume displays and let your blood run cold as you listen to the stories of the Celtic Spirits. The Wickerman will be burnt to herald the beginning of winter.
